Coffee house favorite Beans & Leaf’s hosted their first Cruise-In, Coffee and Cars last Saturday. Felicia Wilson, who helps her mother Sheri run the local hot spot, says that the event was a huge success.
“Things went really well, especially with this being our first time doing this,” said Wilson. “We saw lots of new people. Everyone was very respectful, and cleaned up after themselves. It was a fun experience. There are at least 40 parking spaces in front of the neighboring building plus the middle area, plus some — and all were full. It was a really good turnout. It’s definitely something we will do again.”
Wilson says that they were asked to do a cruise-in every Saturday, but she wants to do a variety of things for the community as well.
“I think we are going to aim for one weekend a month for Coffee and Cars,” said Wilson. “Dusty (Rollin) does a really great job at organizing these. When we get the rest of the building opened up, we want to do a vendor-oriented thing in our back room — kind of give vendors a place out of the weather to set up and sell their items.”
Wilson says that people are looking for things to do and she and everyone at Beans & Leaf’s want to not only provide exceptional service, but to give back to the community by providing family fun events for all to enjoy.
“We want to do more community-involved things,” said Wilson. “We had lots of people that weren’t there with a car, but they came to see all the different cars and trucks that people had. They walked around and talked to each other. It was really cool to see everyone just enjoying themselves. We’re hoping that once we have the whole building done, that we can do even more things to give the community fun things to see and do.”
33-year-old Dusty Rollin began having car meets to give people something constructive to do.
“I started these to give this little town something different to do,” said Rollin. “It just gives teens in this town a place to socialize and have fun without having to be told to leave. We did this on the last Saturday night of each month at Agaves. Everyone was interested and Beans & Leaf’s asked if I would host one for them, and it went really great. We all love our cars and trucks, and I just wanted to enjoy what we have and meet friends with the same passion.”
