It’s almost time for MCAC’s annual “Arts in Bloom” — the 21st year for this annual event. Since its beginnings, the art exhibit has encouraged local artists, from beginners to professionals, to present their work for the community to see and enjoy.
Macon Bank & Trust Company has continually served as host for the event and provided prize money for the winning entries. Macon County Arts Council is proud and grateful to the bank, the artists, and the community for supporting the annual event over this long period of time.
“Arts in Bloom” will once again be held at the main Macon Bank & Trust Company office, 609 Red Boiling Springs Road. Delivery of the artwork and judging will be April 25; the exhibit will be open to the public April 26 and 27 during banking hours.
Artists 18 years of age and older are encouraged to enter two works in any of the following media: Oils, acrylics, watercolor, pastel, mixed media, black and white works (pencil, pen and ink, etc.), colored works on paper, and 3-dimensional works. First, second and third place winners will be chosen in each of these categories. First place winners will receive $25 each, second place winners $10, and a Best of Show piece will receive $150. A People’s Choice Award of $25 will be given to the favorite work of the viewing audience.
This year’s judge is Melanie Cryar from Franklin, Tennessee. As a self-taught artist, Mel draws her inspiration from her work as an interior designer. Her understanding of color and how fine art fits into interior space has garnered praise from other designers and clients. Working mostly in oils, she is drawn to representational subjects and interprets them with a loose style and vibrant color. We are pleased to have Mel serve as our judge this year.
A group critique for artists participating in “Arts in Bloom” will be held after the judging. The critique is scheduled for Thursday, April 25, at 4:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at that time.
For questions or applications, contact Nancy Doss at 615-644-5179 or emailrxnd@nctc.com. Applications are also available at Gallery 102 on the Square. Application forms are due in by April 19.
