Two meth-related arrests were made following a welfare check request to the Lafayette Police Department on Thursday.

Police were called to check on the welfare of a small child who lived in the residence, and discovered a substance in a bedroom which field tested positive for methamphetamine. They also discovered materials associated with meth production. They confiscated a green pill identified as oxycodone, as well as a set of scales, and a pipe with burnt residue on it.

The child was taken into DCS custody and placed with a family member, according to the police report.

April Dawn Edwards, 26, of 970 Highway 52 East, Lafayette, was charged by LPD officer J.J. Ruiz with one count simple possession of Sch. II drug, one count possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count possession for resale. Her court date has been set for February 13, with a $30,000 bond.

Justin Michael Massey, 22, of 290 Phillips Ln., Watertown, was also in the residence. He was charged by Ruiz with identical charges, with the same court date and bond amount. It was not clear at press time whether there would be charges related to the child abuse or neglect.
