Tigers fall to Goodpasture, defeat White House

Macon Co. vs. Goodpasture

Last Friday, the Macon County Tigers did battle against the Goodpasture Cougars. The Tigers didn’t bring it on offense or defense and were defeated 77-57. A slow first half doomed the Tigers.

The first quarter was Goodpasture’s best quarter. The Cougars came out on fire, scoring twenty-three points. The Tigers did score fourteen points in the first quarter. The score after one quarter was 23-14. The second quarter was when the Tigers fell and couldn’t come back. The Tigers scored only six points in the second quarter. Goodpasture, however, scored eighteen points in the second quarter. The score at halftime was 41-20 Goodpasture.

The Tigers played considerably better in the second half. However, they couldn’t overpower Goodpasture. Goodpasture scored twenty points in the third quarter, while Macon County scored nineteen. In the fourth, Macon County outscored Goodpasture 18-16. However, the Tigers lost this game 77-57.

The Tigers had three three pointers in this game, while Goodpasture scored six three pointers. Trey McPherson led the Tigers in scoring with 24 points. Dalton Shrum had 14 points, while Tyler Clark had eight. Dillion McCormick and Justin Tucker had four points each, while Peyton Clark had three points.

Macon Co. vs. White House

The Tigers looked to rebound on Saturday against White House. The Tigers came out hungry for a victory after being beaten by Goodpasture. White House played a tough game, but Macon County would slip by White House late in the game to win 66-64. A strong fourth quarter propelled the Tigers to a close victory.

The first quarter showed that both teams came to play. Both teams scored eighteen points in the first quarter. The second quarter was extremely close as well. White House would score fifteen points in the second quarter, while Macon County scored thirteen. The score at halftime was 33-31.

The second half was Macon County’s half. They did, however, start off slow. Macon County only scored thirteen points in the third quarter. White House, however, scored seventeen points. The score after three quarters was 50-44. The fourth quarter, however, was all Macon County. The Tigers put up an incredible twenty-two points in the fourth quarter. White House only scored fourteen points. White House attempted to march down the court and score as time was winding down, but the Tigers played lockdown defense and went on to win 66-64!

Macon County only had four three-pointers in this game. White House had six. Dalton Shrum led the Tigers in scoring with 26 points. Tyler Clark and Trey McPherson had 11 points each. Daniel Gregory and Peyton Clark both had three points, while Dillion McCormick came off the bench with 8.

The Tigers’ next two games will be at home on Tuesday, January 29 against Greenbrier and at Sycamore on Friday, February 1. Come out and support your Macon County Tigers.
