Palace Care and Rehab honors Jayne Hinson and Jeannie Asberry during Activity Professional Week in January for their commitment to the quality of life for patients and residents of the 119 bed center located in Red Boiling Springs. “Jayne and Jeannie are a very important part of the care team and contribute significantly to the lives of our residents and patients,” said Rebecca Tandy, Executive Director.
Activity professionals are part of the clinical staff that develops individual care plans for each resident and patient. Upon admission, each person and family are interviewed to gather information about past and present interests such as hobbies, employment, daily routines, etc. With that information, the team may identify adaptations that can be made so that the person can continue to pursue his preferred interest. “In addition to individual activity we encourage participation in group activities which helps meet a variety of goals. Socialization improves mood and motivation, “ said Hinson. “By being motivated to participate our patients are at less risk for depression, their motor skills improve and we see so many other benefits, such as improved appetite.”
“One only has to think for a moment about what brings pleasure to our own lives and what it would be like in the absence of having those things to look forward to in order to understand the importance of a good activity program, “ said Tandy. “Looking at it this way helps us define who we are, what gives us pleasure and purpose. Without dedicated activity professionals, this important part of the lives of our patients and residents might be unfilled. We appreciated Jayne and Jeannie for the hard work and the dedicated team of Palace Volunteers who help complete the team.”
