• Annice Jones was crowned Miss Senior Macon County Fair. Other winners were: Georgia McClard, Pearlie Dies, Margie Murphy, Facis Shockley, Reba Bellar, Dixie Ellis, Francis Wright, and Mary Rushing.

• Judge Ken Witcher was elected to serve on the executive committee of the Tennessee Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, during the Council’s annual conference.

• The 4-H Livestock shows were held, some of the winners were: Evan White-Grand and Reserve Champion Charolais Heifer, Greg White - Grand and Reserve Champoin of Plled Hereford Heifers, Stephanie Walker - Grand Champion Breeding Ewe, and Laura Fizgeralds, with a 120 lb. market lamb.

• Open house for Comprehensive Rehabilitation was held.

• Royce Towns, an animal science graduate, was recognized for superior achievement in scholarship. He made the dean’s list for three consecutive quarters.

• Herbert Cutrell was named Lion of the Year, by Lafayette Lions Club.

• Volunteer Sintered Products announced it would begin production in the old Tucker Freight Line building near Hwy. 52.

• Enrollment dropped in Macon County Schools from 3,056 in 1980-1981 to 2,399 in 1981-1992.

• Ralph Emery, host of WSM Channel 4’s morning show, made a promotional appearance at DT McCall & Sons in Lafayette.

August 1979

• Formfit Rogers announced they were hoping to buy the building they were occupying in Lafayette and expand the building from 3,000 square feet to more than 50,000 square feet.

• Robbers broke into Austin's Grocery at Frogpond and made off with approximately $1,200 in merchandise.

• Concrete pouring was underway on the new $1.4 million Macon Bank and Trust building on the HIghway 52 By-Pass at the corner of Red Boiling Springs Road. Completion of the building was expected by October of 1980.

• Pioneer Christian School announced that classes would be held in Red Boiling Springs beginning in the fall of 1979.

• Bobby Shrum's new Master Mix Feed Mill opened for business on August 1, 1979, located east of Lafayette on the new by-pass.

• Lonnie Stephens of Macon Bank and Trust was attending a banker's school at Vanderbilt University.

• Bonnie Coley exhibited the grand champion heifer at the Tennessee Junior Livestock Exposition held in Knoxville.

• The 1979-80 majorettes at Macon County High were Debbie Keisling, Cindy Raney, Cynthia Tucker, and Tiffy Roark.

• Announcement was made that Paul and Helen Walker would retire on September 1 as managers of Alexander Funeral Home in Lafayette after 26 years of service.

• Red Boiling Springs High Cheerleaders attending camp at Tennessee Tech were Sharon Brockette, Becky Goad, Latise Sperry, Cheryl Birdwell, Treasa West, Lisa Bilbrey, Sandra Owen, Shawanna Smith, and Tammie Smith.

• Superintendent of Schools Doyle Gaines, announced that a total of 2,542 students had enrolled for the 1973-74 school year in Macon County. A total of 520 students had enrolled in MCHS.

• Jerry Brawner was puictured in the Macon County Times with a rattlesnake he killed near Carr’s School.

• Hillas Swindle announced that he would not seek reelection to the office of Circuit Court Clerk.

• Ricky Roark exhibited the Reserve Junior Champion Calf at the District Junior 4-H Dairy Show.

• Chitwood Clinic moved to the new modern office building located on West Locust Street and was staffed by Dr. Charles C. Chitwood, and Dr. Jack Clark.

• A balloon sailing race was to highlight the opening of the new George W. Johnson and Son Agency office located on the square in Lafayette.

• Howard A. Smith Construction Company was the low bidder on the new Macon County Health Center located near Central Elementary School.

• Elizabeth Swindle was a $10 winner in Houchens weekly giveaway program.

• Attending 4-H Roundup were: Brenda Jent, Teresa Swindle, Mary Helen Harp, Tommy Coley, Bob Coley and Cliff Jones,

• Several Brown Recluse spiders were killed in Macon County homes, causing concern, but the Macon County Health Department reported that the bite was poisonous but rarely fatal.

• Nera White led the Nashville Mustangs to their fifth Women’s Southeastern Regional Softball Tournament title.

• Key Dillard resigned as coach of Central Elementary football and basketball, to accept a position as head coach of Portland.

• Hollis Shrum was elected president MCHS FFA. Other officers were James Lee Holland, vice-president; Richard Dyer, secretary; Donald Gann, Treasurer; and Billy King, reporter.

• Virgil White purchased the City Cafe from Burford Tooley.

• Fisher H. Fishburn announced his candidacy for Macon County Trustee, subject o an October 1947 election.

• Hollis Shrum was elected president of the MCHS FFA. Other officers were James Lee Holland, Vice President; Richard Dyer, Secretary’ Donald Gann, Treasurer; and Billy King, Reporter.
