The Macon County Fair is officially underway.

An opening ceremony was held earlier today, Monday, Aug. 2, at the fairgrounds.

“I want to welcome all of you here, and I hope you come every chance you get this week,” Macon County Mayor Shelvy Linville said during the opening remarks. “We’ve got an outstanding Fair Board that is responsible for all this.”

Fair Board officers are Ray Goad (president), Steve Walker (vice-president, manager) and Sally Wells (secretary/treasurer). Directors include Goad, Marilyn Murphy, Terry White, Mike East, Helen Hesson, Larry Hudson, Jerry Ray, Debbie Mason, Jeff Hughes, Wells, Mike Jenkins, Lisa Yokley and Walker.

“We all should be proud of what this fair is,” Linville continued. “It has grown each year and gets bigger and better every year. I hope you come every night this week and enjoy yourselves and have a good time.”

The fair runs through Saturday, Aug. 7.

More details from the opening ceremony will appear in the Thursday, Aug. 5 print edition of the Macon County Times.
