One of my favorites is to run down to the farmer’s market at Key Park on Saturday morning and pick up some fresh vegetables and other goodies.
It may be a little early yet to enjoy locally grown produce, but just wait. I remember being stunned - as was my girlfriend last summer, at the size and freshness of the some of the home-grown tomatoes, peppers, and other produce.
Plus, you can often find other things there if you aren’t into your fruits and veggies. I’ve bought plenty of bread, sweets and other items down at the park. Be sure to carry cash with you.
One of Macon County’s true treasures is the Macon County Arts Council.
This past weekend, they kicked off their summer “Concert in the Park” series...which are free!
The next event in the series is on June 23 at 7 p.m. at Key Park (with Macon County Junior High School as the rain venue). The featured performer? The Nashville Symphony.
How’s that for entertainment?
This series of free events continues into September and we’ll be sure to announce them in our calendar section. Be sure to look for them.
And again, they would not be possible without the hard work of the folks at the Macon County Arts Council.
Did you know that there are free movies at Key Park?
That’s right. They show periodically and I apologize for not having a schedule in front of me. However, a drive past the park will reveal a large sign with the next movie and showtimes.
These are family oriented flicks, so hopefully you’ll take an evening and go enjoy one.
There are plenty of other summer events going on across Macon County. Virtually all of them are family friendly and many are free.
While we’re talking summer events, don’t forget the Hillbilly Days, June 17, 18 and 19 at Key Park.
Just check your Macon County Times on occasion and we’ll keep you posted on what’s to come and try to spend some time taking advantage of these programs.
Just in case you haven’t heard, there is a bit of a nasty virus working its way through Facebook accounts.
One virus, which circulated in March, will steal your password. If you suspect this, simply follow Facebook’s instructions for changing your password and use a good virus/keylogger removal tool.
The newest one is called the “koobface” virus and infects your computer through Facebook’s e-mail program. You can spot it by a message that says something along the lines of “I have a video of you on Myspace (or some other site).”
Again, Facebook has posted instructions on how to identify and remove the virus, and how to protect yourself from it in the future.
