Members and guests enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by Macon Bank and Trust Company, prepared by Linda’s Catering, and served by Macon Bank employees Beverly Birdwell, Julie Goodman, Debbie Mason, Chrissy Smith, and Diana Smith. Macon Bank President Radford West brought greetings and expressed appreciation to the retirees.
Entertainment was provided by Macon County’s multi-talented instrumentalist, singer, humorist, and WEEN radio personality, Dale Meador. He invited the group to sing along with him on some “oldies” and concluded with a 1940s popular song, “You Belong to Me”.
McCrary recognized new retirees, Debbie Wheeler and Billy Bransford. Other 2010 MCRTA members are Janice Carter, Debby Murray, and Ron Mullen.
MCRTA granted three $500 scholarships to 2010 seniors who plan to major in education. The scholarship recipients, and their parents were special guests. They were Tosha Renea Swindle who will attend Cumberland University and plans to teach mathematics, her parents, Elaine and Ricky Swindle; Jeanette Moore who was unable to attend but represented by her mother, Christine Moore, plans to teach music and will enroll at Volunteer State Community College; Tessa Dozier plans to become a physical education instructor and will attend Tennessee Technological University, Tessa’s mother is Tammy Dozier.
Jamie Dallas, director of the Macon County Senior Citizens Center, presented and interesting, informative talk on the activities and services available at the center and distributed brochures.
Treasurer Peggy Stephens collected dues for 2010-2011. McCrary conducted a brief business meeting. He discussed changes in insurance and needed legislation.
Mike Tatum and June Smith won door prizes provided by Macon Bank and Trust Company. A key chain and pen were given to all present, compliments of the bank. The MCRTA extends thanks and appreciation to Macon Bank for their hospitality.
