CROSSVILLE -- Two defendants facing sex-offense related charges entered guilty pleas in Cumberland County Criminal Court recently and were sentenced to serve prison or jail sentences.

Nicholas T. Bowder, 25, was charged with attempted aggravated sexual battery and was facing between three and six years in prison and a fine up to $1,000.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and received a four-year prison sentence to serve with fine being waived. He is to pay court costs and will be required to register on the state's sex offender registry.

In an unrelated case, Timothy F. Carter, 43, charged with sexual battery by an authority figure, pleaded guilty to the charge and received a six-year suspended sentence with 30 days to be served on weekends and the remainder on supervised probation.

He is to also register on the state's sex offender registry.

No true bill

The grand jury found that there did not exist enough evidence to forward this case for further action. By returning a no true bill, the grand jury dismissed the charge.

-- William Ross Crabtree, assault.
