Macon County is a Level 1 county. It’s anticipated the county will progress to Level 2 when the Red Boiling Springs Planning Commission completes its Land Use Transportation Study next year.

The Macon County Three Star Tourism Committee met every other month from August 2009 thru June 2010.
Tourism Committee Membership: Attached is a list of Tourism Committee members. The Macon County Commission approved appointment of county commissioner May 17,2010 to the Tourism Committee.
Funding Source: City of Lafayette $1000.00 annually; Macon County $1500.00 annually
There is no legislated funding source in Macon County for tourism or tourism committee. The above annual funding is used to assist in publishing county brochures and county memberships.
In 2010 there is support for the walking quilt trail development in Red Boiling Springs City Park. The City is providing the posts and manpower to place them in the park along the walking trail through the city and maintain them. The Vision 2020 organization in Red Boiling Springs has designed the shadow box to contain the painted quilt square that is chosen by individual citizen sponsor. The sponsor pays for the shadow box frame and artist painting of the quilt at the cost of $200.00. As of May 23,2010 there are 8 paid sponsorships for quilts in the walking quilt trail. There will be a linkage to the Upper Cumberland Quilt Trail Assn website and a map can be down loaded by an individual giving directions to RBS with the map of the quilt trail. There will also be a rack card brochure of the Walking Quilt Trail in RBS for the Welcome Center.
A driving quilt trail is being established in Macon County also in 2010. As of June 1, 2010 there are five 8x8 foot painted quilts in progress or completion and mounted
Tourism Asset Inventory: Macon County Chamber of Commerce maintains a tourism asset for the county.
Train Tourism Professionals: The county or Chamber of Commerce has no resource for such training.
Marketing Plan: Macon County Chamber of Commerce has a marketing plan in development. The Three Star Review was held Wednesday, June 2 and included the annual report, prepared by Chairman Carolyn Whitaker, for 2009-2010.

This includes keeping data base on the system of handling inquiries, including information about inquirers, including name, address, telephone number, email address and how they found out about the community. This includes tracking trends and maintaining a database keeping records of the quantities of local tourism publications that are mailed in response to inquiries and distributed in bulk locations in the Welcome Center in Lafayette, Tn.
