Call off the dogs.
Both inmates who escaped custody late Wednesday morning during work detail have been captured by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and a K-9 unit from Trousdale County, among others who helped in the six-to-seven hour search.
The first escaped inmate was captured about noon, shortly after escaping.
A helicopter flew in about 12:45 p.m. to search by air for the second suspect in the Antioch Road/Driver Road area.
After the helicopter left the scene, the sheriff's office and THP continued to search the area, by foot and with the help of ATVs.
A K-9 unit from Trousdale County arrived on the scene just before 3 o'clock to assist with the search.
At about 4:45, radio traffic between dispatch and officers searching the area indicated the escaped inmate had been spotted in a creek in the same general area officers have been searching for hours.
The second inmate was taken back into custody at about 5:40 p.m. He was led by authorizes from the woods and into a waiting vehicle parked in front of a house on Claude Fox Road.
“Fifty-six to all units,” Sheriff Mark Gammons radioed at 6:04 p.m. “That was a good job, boys. Thank you.”
More details on the escapes and captures to follow online later this week and in the June 10 print edition of the Macon County Times.
