The Macon County Peewee Football & Cheerleading League will be celebrating its 15th season in the community this fall and will be having sign-ups on Saturday June 5 and Saturday June 12 at the MCHS football field on Meador Drive in Lafayette and will be from noon to 5 p.m. each day. You can also sign up at All About Sports on the square Monday through Friday. If your child is interested in football or cheering, please make arrangements to attend one of the sign-up dates.

The tackle football is broken into two divisions: ages 6-8 and ages 9-12 or through the 6th grade. Each team has their own color and actual NFL or collegiate emblems on the side of their helmets. Each team also has a coaching staff that consists of a head coach and usually 5-6 assistants. There is also a flag football division for children ages 4-6 to teach them basic fundamentals of the game of football.

There will be a cheerleading squad for each team for each team with the same ages: ages 4-8 for the younger tackle division and ages 9-12 or through the 6th grade for the older tackle division.

Games will be held on the Pat Parker Memorial Field every Saturday during the months of September and October. These include a jamboree, six regular season games, and a Lion’s Bowl. All-Star games will be held at the end of October or the first of November. There will be halftime performances by the cheerleading squads and a 5th quarter in the younger tackle division. This allows first year and younger players to have an opportunity to get a full quarter of play and experience.

The games will have a play by play announcer and a “game of the week” will be played live on the WEEN 1460 AM radio station. Filmed games may also be played back on North Central’s local channel 15.

Football at any level is a very physical contact sport but the league tries to teach sportsmanship, teamwork, loyalty, respect, and discipline along with the basic fundamentals of blocking and tackling for football and the basic fundamentals of dance, spirit and cheering for cheerdleading. This league also tries to make it fun for every child that participates in the league.

This league also gives back to community as much as possible. The concession stands are run by the Epsilon Chi sorority and the proceeds go towards scholarships within the school system each year.

Also, all proceeds from the Lion’s Bowl game, both the gate and concession stands, goes to Lion’s Club who helps many different charities such as Vanderbilt Children’s Eyesight Center and providing eyeglasses and hearing aids for people within this community

The fees cover insurance, uniforms, and equipment and are as follows: $40 for flag football, $65 for tackle football, $130 for new cheerleaders and those needing new uniforms, and $40 for returning cheerleaders still using their previous uniforms. All fees are due at time of sign-up.
