Memorial Day honors all Americans who fell in battle in all wars, including my brother Bob Porter who died from injuries incurred during the Korean War. In addition to honoring those who gave all, we should also honor those who gave some by serving in the U. S. military.

The American dream is alive today because the brave band of brothers and sisters who served or serve in the U. S. military laid their lives on the line for God and country. Therefore, we should honor them every day of the year by bowing our heads to pray for freedom, love and all that’s good.

We should also honor those who gave all by buying a VFW “Buddy Poppy” that symbolizes this poem by Moina Michael: “We cherish too the Poppy red, That grows on fields where valor led, It seems to signal to the skies, That blood of heroes never dies.”
