Governor Phil Bredesen has approved the 2009 Community Development Block Grant Disaster Application for Macon County in the amount of $750,000, County Mayor Shelvy Linville has announced.

The grant will aid the West Macon County Rescue Squad, the Red Boiling Springs Rescue Squad, the Willette Volunteer Fire Department and construction of a new facility to house E-911 in Lafayette and serve as a command center in case of future disasters.

Macon County was eligible to apply for these funds because of the February 2008 tornado that struck the county, Linville said a news release.

“This is good news for Macon County and this grant will provide funding for some much needed equipment and facilities for our rescue squads and emergency personnel,” Linville said. “I am also happy to announce that we were able to obtain this grant at 100 percent without any matching funds by the county.”
