An apparent lightening strike Friday afternoon caused a propane tank to explode at the home of Kerry and Tammy Smalling.

The Smalling home is located at 3935 Oak Grove Road, near the Carthage Road end about four miles from the Red Boiling Springs city limits.

The incident occurred about 2:15 p.m. during a heavy thunderstorm.

Damage was limited to the propane tank and to the line leading into the residence, according to a WLCT-FM news report by Jerry Greenway, who spoke to Red Boiling Springs Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Steve Newberry.

No significant damage to the home was reported.
