Lisa Spencer, Channel 4 News meterologist, took time to share with the students at L.E.S. all about weather. Lisa, a native of Jackson, Tenn, has spent the last nine years delivering Middle Tennessee with the weather forecast and breaking news when storms approach our area.
While visiting L.E.S., she gave the students a behind the scenes tour of the Channel 4 News studio via a video presentation. Kids observed as she showed how some of the high tech equipment and computers worked. Such equipment included Doppler Network and True View. She urged that when severe weather hits, it is important to be aware of what you see, hear and feel. Topics discussed were updrafts, thunder, lighting, and tornados. Discussion included what these are, how they form and how to use proper caution when they approach.
Lisa brought with her a couple of experiments that students got to interact with to demonstrait how our weather system works. At the end of her message, students were given a chance to ask several good questions.
