• Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Miller of Athena, Ga., were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Pete Miller.

• Miss Margaret Scurlock, of Lebanon, became the bride of Robert Hodges, of Lafayette.

• Jimmy Neal Grace and Sandra Smith, of Red Boiling Springs, were named to the honor roll at Tennessee Tech.

• The first religious figure was being installed at the new Macon County Memorial Gardens.

• Funeral services were held for Robert Waterman Hodges, a resident of Lafayette.

• Mrs. Lois Parker, mother of Mrs. Christine Harris, passed away at Smith-Chitwood Hospital.

• Mrs. James White was named chairperson of the Macon County Cancer Crusade for 1959.

• Macon County FFA members attending the State Convention were: Thomas Swindle, Bruce Dozier, George McCrary, Floyd Bohanan, Bobby Jones and Terry Burrow.

• Mr. and Mrs. Tom Link had moved to their new home in the Highland Addition.

• Hisey Hire and Ezma Walrond had taken over ownership of Hire’s Flower Shop.

• About $150,000 worth of stocks and bond were taken during a robbery at Polston Builders Supply in Lafayette.

• Dr. L.C. Hix passed away at his home of College Street.

• Mrs. Ralph Howser was named chairperson of the 1954 Cancer Drive in Macon County.

• Citizens Bank had purchased property on the corner of the Public Square and Red Boiling Springs Road and announced that a new bank building would be built.
