Pre-K, kindergarten and first grade students at Fairlane Elementary have been busy recently raising money to help in the fight against cancer.

The students raised a total of $688.

The money was presented to Hayden Shrum at 10 a.m. Thursday at the school.

Shrum, a former Fairlane student, is the organizer of the Mayfest Music Festival.

All proceeds from the May 8 event at Key Park go to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Scheduled musical entertainment this year includes Katie Ballou, Michael David, Shattered Silence, Jason Gammon, Saint Silas, Southern Image and Mama Tried.

Also, there will be a cake walk, auction, food and events for the kids.

There will be a Corn Hole tournament with a $10 entry fee and a $100 prize. Signups for the tournament begin at 11:30 a.m.

For more information on the event, contact Shrum at 388-3103.

More details will appear in the April 22 print edition of the Times.
