It was for the "basic financial statements of Macon County as of and for the year ended June 30, 2009."
Macon County Mayor Shelvy Linville said Friday morning that he's pleased with the audit.
“Basically, it’s a good audit," Linville said. "There’s a few minor things that we need to correct. It is what it is. I’m really proud of this audit. We basically got a good audit.”
The audit was made available online at 9 a.m.
The Macon County Times on Thursday morning reported information from the audit's highlight sheet.
The Times received that information directly from the Comptroller's office via a letter postmarked Wednesday and delivered Thursday morning.
Macon County's financial statements for the period ending June 30, 2009 are designated as being unqualified, which isn't bad.
“Actually, that’s a good thing,” the Comptroller’s office told the Times on Thursday afternoon.
“Unqualified means that there is nothing that is missing,” said Blake Fontenay, director of communications for the Comptroller’s office. “A qualified audit would be if there were incomplete financial statements, something that the auditors weren’t able to document.
“Just like saying ‘an unqualified success’, it’s the same principle. An unqualified audit means that there’s no information that’s not known. There’s nothing that they are throwing in there as a caution to their findings.”

More comments from Linville about the audit will appear online next week and in the April 15 print edition of the Times.
