The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the mid-state area, including Macon County.
The watch goes into effect Thursday afternoon and is scheduled to last through the evening.
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur, according to the National Weather Service.
A strong upper ridge and an increasing low level pressure gradient will cause warm and dry conditions across the mid-state this afternoon, according to NWS. Wind speeds will elevate as the pressure gradient tightens.
