•Thirteen year-old Jennifer Nicki Wix, daughter of Marcie McCloud of Gallatin and Donald Wix of Lafayette, was to receive one of her mother’s kidneys to replace her own failing kidney.

•Sha Ramsey was the first-place winner of the 10-12 grade division of a Drug Awareness Essay Contest sponsored by the Lafayette Lion’s Club.

•MCHS basketball coach Gary Carter was surprised with a party and cake to commemorate his 200th win as a basketball coach.

•The county commission was scheduled to discuss the establishment of an ambulance service based out at Westside.

•Mac Carnahan was named Employee of the Year for 1986 at Regency Health Care Center.

•“Three Amigos!” starring Chevy Chase, Steve Martin and Martin Short was playing at Lafayette Cinema.

February 1984

•Ninety-one Macon County High School girls were scheduled to complete for the title of Miss Macon County High School, 1984. Miss Angela Gammons, the 1983 Miss MCHS, was to crown the winner.

•Terry Marsh announced his candidacy for the office of Superintendent of Schools of Macon County.

•J.P. Russell, a Macon County native and Executive Vice-President of Citizens Bank, passed away suddenly on Feb. 8 at Macon County General Hospital.

•The Lafayette Garden Club had recently met at the home of Reba Bellar. Thirteen members were present.

•Eight students from Macon County enrolled at Cumberland College for the 1984 Spring semester. They were: Billy Blankenship, Penny Brockett, Roger Farley, Lisa Goad, Beverly Hunter, Paulette Parkhurst, Michael Pedigo and Meshel Swindle.

•The Epsilon Chi Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority elected Helen Howser as the 1984 Valentine Sweetheart.

•Cable TV subscribers in Lafayette were soon to be offered a whole array of new channels, including the Christian Broadcast Network, an additional movie channel, MTV Music Television, the Nashville Network and the Disney Channel.

•Lafayette dentist Dr. Larry Key announced the relocation of his office from 1001 Scottsville Road to a location in the Gibson Shopping Center near the Jan-Su Beauty Shop and City Finance.

•The movie “Sudden Impact” with Clint Eastwood was playing at Lafayette Cinema Theatre. Meanwhile, the movie “Tomcats” was playing at the drive-in.

•Announcement was made that Bill Martin had purchased Tooter’s Cee Bee from Hillas “Tooter” Jenkins.

•C.D. Williams had been hired by the Lafayette City Police, according to Chief Norman Farley.

•Mr. and Mrs. Willie Kemp of the Defeated community drowned when their car plunged over an embankment and landed in Cordell Hull Lake.

•The Holland, Kentucky Branch of Farmers National Bank was robbed for the third time in three years.

•The Lafayette girls won the Vol State basketball tournament.

•Mazell Draper had been visiting relatives at Virginia Beach, Va.

•Daylight Saving Time was to begin on Sunday, Feb. 23, 1975.

•Clay Smith had celebrated his 79th birthday at his home at 301 Church Street in Lafayette.

•Mrs. Ruby Helen Wix was killed when the in which she was a passenger ran off the highway on Peddlers Ridge and came to a stop 400 feet down a steep embankment.

50 years ago

February 1960

•Miss Polly Cothron, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Cothron of Hillsdale, was crowned Miss Macon County High School. Daffo Deckard and Opal Dallas rounded out the top three.

•Round steak was on sale at Houchen’s for 79-cents a pound.

•Construction on the new Westside Elementary School and a lunchroom addition to Lafayette Elementary was underway.

•Joan Law, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V.P. Law, was named Valedictorian at MCHS. Ray Tinsley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tinsley, was named Salutatorian.

•A combination wind-electrical-hail storm hit the county on Feb. 10, causing widespread damage over the area.

February 1949

•The Lafayette Home Demonstration Club met at the home Mrs. Hester Carter.

•The Haysville Home Demonstration Club met at the home of Mrs. Clay Law.

•Carl F. Driver had completed his studies at Western Kentucky State University and was attending the University of Kentucky.

•Hollis Jenkins had received a broken nose while attempting to crank a power unit of a saw mill near Sycamore Valley.

•L.L. Casady Furniture Company opened in a new building on the North side of the public square.

•A 1948 Pontiac stolen from druggist Billy Wilson McClard was found in Bowling Green, Ky.

•Cordell Wilson had been added to the sales force of Tri-County Electric Appliance Company. They offered for sale a complete line of General Electric appliances.

•Paul Wilson of the U.S. Navy, stationed in San Diego, Calif., was visiting relatives in Red Boiling Springs.

•Edgar G. King had resigned as rural carrier, on Route 3, Lafayette, after 36 years of service. His place was temporarily being filled by Earl D. Meador.

•Three Macon County men were inducted into the U.S. Navy. They were Willard O. Ellis, Haskell McDonald and Harold C. Morrison.
