Reception at the Welcome Center

There is a new exhibit at the Macon County Welcome Center featuring works from the Davis Family of Red Boiling Springs. In particular, there are several pieces from the collection of the late James Lester Davis, one of the Davis siblings. James Davis was a gifted art student whose works span a wide variety of media. The Davis family is all very multi-talented, with skills ranging from painting and drawing to needlework and wood working. Now they have graciously agreed to share these many talents with the community by displaying them at the Welcome Center. Macon County Arts Council will sponsor a reception honoring the family and this collection of work on Sunday, February 14, from 2 to 4 p.m., in the Welcome Center Community Room, 685 Hwy 52 Bypass W., Lafayette.

In addition to the Davis family, MCAC will also recognize the poets from the recently released book "The Beauty of the Butterfly" at the reception. This book is the creation of local photographer Patricia Ferguson. With her camera, Patricia has captured the grace and beauty of butterflies common to Macon County, and has succeeded in making the book a particularly delightful read by including poetry from area poets. During the reception the poets will have an opportunity to share their poems with everyone there.

MCAC would like to invite everyone to come out and enjoy this varied collection of works. We know you will enjoy the afternoon. For more information call 644-5179.

Cut-a-Thon to Benefit MCAC

Linda Mason, owner of The Hair Gallery & U-Tan, has come up with a unique idea to introduce her new beautician to the community and also benefit a community arts organization -- the "Cut-a-Thon". The Cut-a-Thon will be on Tuesday, February 16, from 9:00 until 3:00. During this time, proceeds from all cuts by new staff member Alison Barton will go directly to the Macon County Arts Council. The arts council, of course, thinks the idea is wonderful, and hopes you will all take time to meet Alison and have your hair trimmed or cut!

The Hair Gallery opened in 1989 and added a high performance tanning bed in 1997. At that time the name was changed to include the tanning business; it became known as The Hair Gallery and U-Tan. Since then the business has grown considerably. Alison Barton has now joined the staff. She is 23, a wife of John Barton and mother of 13-month old Sarah, and a recent graduate of Lindsey Institute of Cosmetology in Bowling Green. The daughter of Mike Key and Priscilla Turner, Alison lives in the Oakdale Community. She brings the newest techniques to her work and is looking forward to meeting everyone.

Macon County Arts Council is actively working to promote the arts in our community. Programs this year will include several Concerts in the Park, plus children's events including the popular Arts in the Park during the month of June. Monies from the Cut-a-Thon will help fund these events. MCAC is very appreciative of this opportunity and thanks The Hair Gallery & U-Tan for advocating for the arts in Macon County.
