Arlis Gene Hewitt, Sr., age 85, of Lafayette, passed away on Friday evening, January 29, 2010 at the Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, TN. Funeral services for Arlis Gene Hewitt, Sr. were conducted Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Anderson & Son Funeral Home with Elder Tony Day officiating Interment followed in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park in Lafayette with military honors. Masonic Rites were conducted Tuesday evening, February 2, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. from the Anderson & Son Funeral Home by the Lafayette Masonic Lodge #543.

Arlis Gene was born on Saturday, May 31, 1924, one of three siblings born to the late John Leslie and Bessie Davis Hewitt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Hewitt and sister, Alean Givens. He attended the Nashville Auto Diesel College and owned & operated Hewitt Body Shop retiring in 1999. In 1967, he opened the first Chrysler Dealership in Lafayette. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Lafayette Masonic Lodge #543, Shriner and a former Lafayette City Councilman. Arlis was a veteran of the United States Army proudly serving his country in World War II receiving the EAME Theater Ribbon with 5 Bronze Stars, Meritorious Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He is survived by companion, Ruby Kirby Hewitt, sons & daughters-in-law, Louie & Linda Hewitt, Tim & Tammye Hewitt, Troy Hewitt and Arlis Gene Hewitt, Jr. all of Lafayette, sister & brother-in-law, Melba & Ken Leonard, Murfreesboro, grandchildren, Jason (Jenny) Hewitt, Josh (Allison) Hewitt, Jessica Hewitt, Ethan Hewitt, 5 great-grandchildren.
