If the truth be known there is a large number of citizens against the Industrial Poultry Industry and the Factory Farm (Cattle & Hogs)operations that are planning on taking over the City of Lafayette and the rural communities of Macon County.

By personally speaking to or reaching them by phone, contact has been made with our doctors, lawyers, teachers, nurses, city and county government employees, bank employees, electrical workers, Bd of Edu. electives, insurance brokers, restaurant owners and employees, Farm Bureau and Farm Co-op workers, small cattle farmers, tobacco growers, senior citizens, flower shop owners, beauticians, barber shop owners, librarians, retail sales people, cable & telephone installers, utility workers, gas station operators, feed haulers, grocery store owners & employees, D.O.T workers,real estate owners & agents, local police and deputy sheriffs, church members of all faiths, and the list could go on, and on, and on....

I was told by each and everyone of them that they don’t want any more of these operations coming into our county. They spoke with a loud and hard voice stating that they sure didn’t want any of them within 250 feet of their door step, neither did they want them to be anywhere near their children’s school, their churches or their rural cemeteries. But, for reasons beyond understanding, these same people will not publically proclaim their opposition against it.

After much thought, I would like to ask those people, “and you know who you are”, if you fear retaliation? And, if so, what would it be? Could they put you in jail, fire you from your job, close down your business, destroy your home, your crops or your animals, not attend your church, slander your name, fail to show up at a job site, raise your taxes or insurance, or possibly refuse proper health care to you and your family?

I don’t think so because there is only a small number of people here in Macon County who have agreed to go along with the “economic boom” story being touted. We all know that money talks and money buys support! I now ask that you look around and decide whether or not you want to remain in the “dark shadows” waiting to see what’s going to happen before you bring your light out from under the basket.

You need to raise your head high, pull your shoulders back and put the strength back into that “Back Bone” the good LORD gave you!. It’s not too late to stop this fast moving train of destruction that’s coming our way. We must realize that it will consume us and wipe Macon County off the map.

Now is the time to sound the battle cry remembering “whatsoever a man sowth, that shall he also reap”!.
