Kevin D. King has been charged with four counts in the shooting of his son earlier this week.
King is charged with two counts of child reckless endangerment, one count of aggravated child endangerment and one count of felony possession of a firearm, according to Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons.
Bond is set at $75,000 with a court date scheduled Feb. 3.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Monday night to a call on Carthage Road, just outside the Red Boiling Springs city limits. They responded to reports of a gunshot.
“Upon their arrival they found a 10 year old boy that had a gunshot wound,” Gammons said. “There were two other children in the home.”
An ambulance rushed the boy to the Nestle Water facility, where a helicopter landed about 10:50 p.m. to transport him to Vanderbilt Hospital.
Meanwhile, back at the boy’s home, sheriff’s deputies were holding his father in the back of a cruiser. Inside, deputies were searching for a gun, which Kevin King apparently hid before they arrived.
Deputies found bullet holes in the wall where a gun had been discharged before, Gammons said.
The boy's mother was at work when the shooting occurred.
