Will the City of Red Boiling Springs increase garbage rates for commercial daily pick-up?

The issue was on Thursday night's agenda, though the Council ultimately opted with a 6-0 vote to table the issue until their next monthly meeting at City Hall.

Councilman and Vice-Mayor John Cook presided over the meeting in the absence of Mayor Kenneth Hollis.

Hollis was not at the meeting because he had to be out of town, according to City Clerk Coby Knight.

Police Chief Terry Tuck told the council his department will use the $500 it received from Wal-Mart earlier this week to purchase digital cameras. The cameras will be used by officers to document evidence, Tuck said.

The council approved the hiring of two new firefighters for the RBS Fire Department. Like all new city employees, Daniel Smith and Danny Rice have been hired on a one-year probationary period.

Break out the hacksaw. The table around which councilmen sit will be cut down a few inches. The motion to do so was made at the end of the meeting by Bobby Etheridge and received some laughter before the council voted to approve with a 6-0 vote. When sitting, the top of the table is nearly chest-high to some councilmen.

More details to follow online and in next Thursday's edition of the Macon County Times.
