The Macon County Arts Council was recently honored in Nashville at the Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards at the William R. Snodgrass Tennessee Tower.

The Macon County Arts Council was formed three years ago to offer art-related opportunities to children, artists and the community that previously had not been available.

MCAC has successfully solicited financial support from area businesses and people interested in the arts and this has brought about the establishment of “Concerts in the Park”, “Art in the Park” and a recently-opened art gallery in the Macon County Welcome Center.

Due to MCAC’s efforts, art opportunities for children in Macon County have also increased significantly. For example, MCAC has invited musicians and puppeteers to visit Macon County schools.

The Macon County Board of Directors is composed of Shirley Anderson, Gay Chamberlain, Nancy Doss, Randy East, Kathy Eden, Thomas Kidd, Quinn Marlow, Lisa Spivey and Ricky Wilson.
