Evan R. Moss, Sr. (“Dick”), 90, retired Lieutenant Colonel, passed away November 5, 2009. He was born March 30, 1919 in Red Boiling Springs, TN to William and Cornel Cloyd Moss. After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University, he joined the Air Force. He was a pilot and served his country in two wars. He then spent the next forty years in Steel Business resulting in a family run company. He was a avid golfer and loved all aspects of the outdoors including horseback riding, hiking, tennis, and fishing. He traveled extensively throughout the world. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church, The Pelican Bay Country Club, and a former member of the Halifax River Yacht Club in Florida. He was former owner of the Historic Cloyd Hotel ( now known as the Thomas House) and a direct descendant of the original Cloyd family.

He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn, to whom his children are extremely grateful for her devotion and care of their father; his children: Cecilia Moss and fiancé Gene York of Smyrna, TN, Evan R. Moss, Jr. (Dickie) and wife Suzanne of Tampa, FL, Mary Lou Gordon and husband Gary of Tampa, FL,; grandchildren: Evan Moss and wife Racy, David Moss and wife Krista, Ryan Lester, and Megan Lester; three great grandchildren; step children: Jim Ellinor, David Ellinor, Cindy Ellinor, Tom Ellinor and their families; sister: Margaret Vinson of Red Boiling Springs, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother: Comus Moss; and one sister: Willea Moss Taylor.

A memorial service was held on Monday, November 9, 2009 at Central Baptist Church. Evan will be missed by all who knew him.
