Red Boiling Springs Councilman John Cook has issued a response to the events that occurred at the RBS City Council meeting on Thursday night.

At that regularly-scheduled meeting of the RBS City Council at City Hall, the council carried a motion to remove Councilman Cook as vice mayor. The motion carried by a 4-0 vote, with votes from councilmen Steve Newberry, Billy Joe Carver, Willie Brown and Mayor Kenneth Hollis.

Next, council carried a motion to make Willie Brown vice mayor. That motion carried by a 4-0 vote.

Cook remains a councilman.

Both motions were made by Carver and quickly seconded by Newberry. Both motions were made, seconded and carried at the very end of a 22-minute meeting after all other business on the agenda had been discussed.

Cook, who was not at the meeting, was reached for comment Friday afternoon.

“I was elected by the people to help change Red Boiling Springs and have this city operate in the sunshine,” Cook said. “Certain folks are now taking desperate, illegal measures against me to prevent the light from shining in on them but it just won’t work and the people will win in the end.”
