Even though regular season play had ended for the Red Boiling Springs 5th and 6th grade basketball, they traveled to Hermitage Springs to play in one final tournament. With the tournament being a single elimination tournament, unfortunately, neither team placed in the tournament. However, the boys did find themselves doing something they hadn’t all season long.

Scoring summary in girls play:

1st quarter – RBS 5th and 6th Lady Bulldogs 0 Hermitage Springs Lady Wildcats 6

2nd quarter – RBS 5th and 6th Lady Bulldogs 11 Hermitage Springs Lady Wildcats 8

3rd quarter – RBS 5th and 6th Lady Bulldogs 13 Hermitage Springs Lady Wildcats 19

Final score – RBS 5th and 6th Lady Bulldogs 21 Hermitage Springs Lady Wildcats 31

The RBS 5th and 6th Lady Bulldogs opened the tournament last Monday, February 4, playing against the hosting Hermitage Springs Lady Wildcats. The RBS 5th and 6th Lady Bulldogs had already faced this team twice during the regular season. In both meetings, the RBS 5th and 6th Lady Bulldogs failed to outscore the Lady Wildcats. It was the same story during this meeting, with the exception of the Lady Bulldogs leading the first two quarters. On the other hand, it was a different story in the third quarter. The Lady Wildcats managed to outscore the Lady Bulldogs by 9 points putting them on top by 6. The Lady Bulldogs never managed to regain the lead in the fourth quarter. They were eliminated in the first round by 10 points. Scoring for the Lady Bulldogs was #12 Kameron Clark with 3 points, #44 Keelan Arnett with 7 points, #00 Kennedy Fleming with 3 points, #21 Chloe Kramer with 5 points, and #23 Briley Morgan with 3 points.

Scoring summary in boys play, round 1, against Clay County Bulldogs on February 4:

1st quarter – RBS 5th and 6th Bulldogs 9 Celina Bulldogs 11

2nd quarter – RBS 5th and 6th Bulldogs 19 Celina Bulldogs 16

3rd quarter – RBS 5th and 6th Bulldogs 26 Celina Bulldogs 21

Final score – RBS 5th and 6th Bulldogs 34 Celina Bulldogs 27

Going into this tournament, the RBS 5th and 6th Bulldogs had yet to see a win. Their regular season ended with 10 disappointing loses. However, after the first round of tournament play, this would change. The Bulldogs played one of their best games they had all year. They played well as a team and pulled off the first win of the 2012-2013 season. Although they were down by two at the end of the first quarter, they pulled together and took control of the game. In the last two quarters of the game, the game was a back and forth match between the two teams, with both teams leading and then trailing several times. The RBS Bulldogs managed to hang on to the lead during the last minute of play defeating the Celina Bulldogs and earning their first win. With this win, the RBS Bulldogs advanced to round two. Scoring for the Bulldogs was #11 Mason Hix with 8, #12 Matthew Murphy with 4, #23 Tyler Humes with 5, and #21 Dylan Gross with 2. Having a great game with scoring almost half of the Bulldogs points was #15 Hunter Kirk with 15 points.
