Macon County’s first game was against Trousdale County, a team who the Tigers had soundly defeated earlier in the season. The Tigers would defeat the Jackets again, winning their first game of the tournament 59-48.

The Jackets actually put up a strong effort in the first half. The Tigers started out the game slow and only led 15-14 after the first quarter. Neither team really seemed to be able to score consistently in the first half. After two quarters of play, the Tigers led 28-25.

In the second half, the Tigers seemed to settle down and begin pouring in the points. Trey McPherson and Dalton Shrum led the way in scoring, as they both took charge and dominated. The Tigers led 49-33 after the third quarter. Hartsville made a bit of a run in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers put too many points on the board for Hartsville to catch up, as the Tigers cruised to the 59-48 victory.

Dalton Shrum led the team in scoring with 16 points. Trey McPherson wasn’t far behind that with 14. Peyton Clark had 6, Tyler Clark had 3, and Aaron Carter had 2.

The results after the first day showed Lancaster Christian beating Red Boiling, Cumberland County beating Jackson County, and Obion County beating Westmoreland. That would mean the Tigers would do battle on Friday against the Obion County Rebels.

Game 2 - vs. Obion County

Obion County would prove to be too much for the Tigers, as the Rebels defeated Macon County 57-46. Injuries and fouls proved to be the nail in the coffin for the Tigers.

The first half was a rough half for the Tigers. The Rebels had a strong interior defense, and the Tigers couldn’t drive the basket like they wished they could. Obion County shot the ball decently from beyond the arc, and Macon County hit only a few threes, two of them by Trey McPherson. The Rebels led 32-23 after the first half.

The second half was a scary one for the Tigers. In the third quarter, Trey McPherson would fall to the court holding his nose. The team trainer soon announced that Trey had broken his nose and would most likely be out for the remainder of the tournament. One of the Tigers’ best players had just been downed in a crucial quarter. However, the Tigers fought hard. They would go on a crazy run and bring the score to 40-38 after the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, though, Obion County put the clamps down on defense, and the Tigers couldn’t play catch-up from beyond the arc. The Tigers would fall 57-46.

Although Trey went down in the third quarter, he and Tyler Clark led the team in scoring with 12 points each. Aaron Carter had 7 points, Dalton Shrum had 6, and Dillion McCormick had 5.

Results of the second day of the tournament were: Westmoreland beat Trousdale County and Cumberland County upsetting Lancaster Christian. Obion and Cumberland would meet in the championship game, and Macon County and Lancaster Christian would meet in the consolation game for third place.

Game 3 - vs. Lancaster

The Tigers would play a close game against Lancaster but would ultimately fall to them 64-58. Fouls proved to doom the Tigers late in the game.

The start of the game was already rough for the Tigers, as Trey McPherson didn’t play because of a broken nose he sustained in the last game against Obion County. The Tigers were down a man. The entire game the Tigers seemed to set up their teammates better and allow for easier shots. However, the Tigers’ defense was slow, and they had too many fouls. It was a rough game, nonetheless. Tyler Clark and Aaron Carter both fouled out in the fourth quarter, and the Tigers’ bench couldn’t mirror the Seniors’ late game experience. The Tigers would fall 64-58.

Tyler Clark led the way in scoring with 21 points. Dalton Shrum had 10, Mayson Shrum had 9, and Justin Tucker had 6.

The final results of the Nera White Tournament showed Red Boiling finishing eighth, Trousdale County finishing seventh, Westmoreland finishing sixth, Jackson County finishing fifth, Macon County finishing fourth, Lancaster finishing third, Cumberland County finishing second.

Obion County became the 2012 Nera White Champions.
