Ruth Pauline Hire, better known as “Polly,” of Lafayette, was born on Saturday, November 26, 1921, one of five children born to the late Willie Martin and Martha Sue Bryant Humphrey.

She departed this life on Monday, December 10, 2012 at the age of 91 years. Funeral services for Polly Hire were conducted from the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12th with Jerry Mercer officiating. Interment followed in the Haysville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bobby Bransford, Joe Eden, Jerry Kirby, Matt Shouse, Ancel Burford and Justin Kirby.

On July 16, 1947, Polly was married to Luther “Estel” Hire. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1993. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband of 45 years, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Kenny Eldon Clark; 3 brothers, Coy Humphrey, Willard Humphrey and Leroy Humphrey; and a sister, Eula Mae Humphrey. Polly is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Eldon Clark; granddaughter, Deann Clark; and special grandchildren, Jonah and Carter Shouse, all of Lafayette; several nieces and nephews.
