Ronald G. Austin, born July 28th 1944, passed away on November 20th, 2012.
Austin (‘Cuz’ or ‘Alley Oop’ to the members of the ‘Rebel Raiders’ MC) was a longtime serviceman in the National Guard (18-years). He was a many time USA Champion Motorcycle Hill-Climber in the 60’s into the 70’s.
He is survived by his step-father Fred Spice, his half-sister Jodi Morrow, his step-mother Helen Austin, and his cousins Jimmy d. Bandy and Michael Bandy.
Ronald was felled by terminal emphysema, diabetes, and heart-failure. He died on Tuesday, November 20th, 2012 at 7:05 AM. He passed at St. Francis hospital in Indianapolis, IN. His service was held at Oakley and Hammond funeral home, at 2:00 PM on November 26th. Pastor Danny Thomas presided, and Ronald’s cousins Jimmy and Michael Bandy delivered the eulogies and fond memories to family and bereaved.
Tragically, Ronald’s ex-wife of 19 years, Diane Miller, passed away one month earlier on October 29th, 2012. Ms. Miller was felled also by emphysema and heart failure. She had passed peacefully during the night, and wasn’t noticed for two days. Diane was discovered by her sister.
Upon hearing this news, Ronald, who had never gotten over Diane, and was already in a debilitated state, began to deteriorate at a rapid pace.
Ronald’s passing will not be forgotten by those who knew him.
While born and raised in Indianapolis, Ronnie lived most of his summers here, while growing up with cousin Jimmy Bandy and aunt and uncle Douglas and Reba Bandy, Lafayette’s natives of more than 50 years. Living in various states all over the country, Ronald finally resided right here in Macon County from 1990 to 2011.
Rest in Peace, Ronald Austin, you will be missed.
