The Macon County Sheriff’s Department continued its crusade against meth on Tuesday of last week, with another home bust. Four were arrested onsite and a fifth escaped.
The officers were on a misdemeanor run. Zachary Riddle’s probation officer had received information that he was involved with meth, prompting her to contact MCSD.
“Upon making entry of the house, we located Zach,” said Det. Donnie Crawford. “He advised his mother that everything was all right. Her other son Justin was in another room at the other end of the house. We walked to that room to bring everybody out and secure them.” Those in the house included Zachary Riddle, Justin Riddle, Trenton Carter, Paul Wallace, and Comalea Riddle.
The officers found a bag of a leafy green substance at the feet of a sleeping Trenton Carter, who, upon waking, tried to cover the bag with his feet, according to officers. In Paul Wallace’s pocket they located lithium batteries. After emptying the room of the defendants, they located salt, tools to cut batteries open, a length of black rubber tubing, and a coffee filter with white powdery substance that a field test showed to be methamphetamine.
In Zachary’s room they located marijuana grinders and various styles of drug pipes, and in Comalea’s room they found another coffee filter with a white powdery substance, as well as a short straw and a razor blade nearby.
Zachary Riddle, who also tested positive for methamphetamine, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Comalea Riddle was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of Schedule II drug.
Justin Riddle was charged with promotion of methamphetamine manufacture, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of Schedule II drug. He was also charged with theft of property, because of an orange plastic, blinking caution light that they also located in his room. Trenton Carter was charged with possession of Schedule VI drug, on account of the bag of apparent marijuana.
“Paul Wallace,” said Det. Crawford, “after we brought him downstairs, he took off running out the front door, so he’s still at large. But we’ll have charges on him as well.”
