Tennessee ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve) presented awards to two NCTC employees last Tuesday. Tammy Toornburg and Ricky Rather were honored with the Above and Beyond Award from the Department of Defense, having already received the Patriot Award earlier this year, on the same nomination.

In order to receive an award from BSGR, an employee of a company must be nominated by a member of the armed forces, or their immediate family member.

Bridgette Mays, also an NCTC employee, whose husband has now returned from deployment, nominated these two for the award for the special help she felt they gave to herself during the years of her husband’s absence. “Tammy’s my direct supervisor,” said Mays. “She never had any questions any time I had to take a phone call on the job. If I needed off spur of the moment she always let me go, knowing that I was the only one at home.

“Then when he was wounded, phone calls weren’t coming in to the house, so Ricky set up a phone line on the internet so that my husband could call me and give me his medical updates.”

ESGR volunteers Chuck and Carlene Galemore presented awards to the two, as well as plaques to NCTC as a whole and to employee Barry Hiett. Nancy White accepted NCTC’s plaque; Mrs. Galemore said that White sent the only letter they’d ever received in thanks from a business after they visited. Hiett received a plaque for filming and sending the only video that’d ever been taken of the Galemores presenting awards—they said that the video was to be used for training purposes at ESGR.
