After blinks, or sometimes outages, many Tri-County Electric member-owners ask “how is it that a bird (or squirrel or snake) caused this? It doesn’t seem possible.”

Unfortunately it is not only possible, it is very common. The two photos accompanying this release show the effect animals can have on power reliability. While Tri-County Electric faces issues with animals every year, the mild winter was primarily responsible for the increase we are currently seeing in the number of birds causing problems.

Please keep in mind that although this is an inconvenience (and certainly annoying) for the members affected, the results are fatal to the unsuspecting animal.
