A single vehicle crash on Friday night, June 1, killed 20-year-old Joseph B. Jenkins of Lafayette.

The crash was investigated by Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Fisher and Sgt. Norris.

According to the report filed with THP, a Macon County Sheriff’s Deputy observed Jenkins vehicle run a stop sign on Williams Road, activated his emergency equipment and tried to catch up with Jenkins’ vehicle when it turned left onto Trent Road.

The report further states that the deputy lost sight of the vehicle after cresting a slight hill, and then he say where Jenkins had lost control of his vehicle and struck a group of trees head on, pinning Jenkins inside the car.

Jenkins was not wearing the seatbelt, but officers note in their report they do not feel it would have made a difference in this case.

The crash remains under investigation.
