In February 2008, Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) announced its plans to build and operate a 2,040-bed correctional facility on a 108-acre site in Hartsville's Power Com Industrial Park . Construction of the Trousdale Correctional Center, a $143 million investment by CCA in the area, was initiated in the summer and is ongoing with an anticipated completion date sometime in the first quarter of 2010.

Once fully constructed and operational, the facility will provide approximately 350 career jobs, with most positions hired locally. At a date closer to completion of construction, CCA will begin the process of advertising to fill these jobs and receiving applications for employment. Interested residents should wait until such time before submitting applications.

The economic impact of jobs, however, is already benefiting the Trousdale community during the construction phase.

In addition to jobs resulting from the use of local subcontractors and laborers, outside subcontractors temporarily living in the area are also impacting local businesses with money they are spending locally at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and other businesses.

Additionally, because the facility is privately owned by CCA, the community will benefit from property and sales taxes. Initial estimates on property taxes are approximately $1.5 million annually.

Trousdale Correctional Center will be CCA's seventh correctional facility in the state of Tennessee.

CCA currently provides housing and education, health care and rehabilitative services for approximately 8,000 offenders statewide at Hardeman County Correctional Center (Whiteville, Tenn.), Metro-Davidson County Detention Facility (Nashville , Tenn.), Silverdale Detention Facilities (Chattanooga , Tenn.), South Central Correctional Center (Clifton, Tenn.), West Tennessee Detention Facility (Mason , Tenn.) and Whiteville Correctional Facility (Whiteville , Tenn.). The company currently employs nearly 2,000 professionals in Tennessee.

CCA is the nation's largest owner and operator of privatized correctional and detention facilities and one of the largest prison operators in the United States , behind only the federal government and three states. We currently operate 64 facilities, including 42 company-owned facilities, with a total design capacity of approximately 82,000 beds in 19 states and the District of Columbia .

We specialize in owning, operating and managing prisons and other correctional facilities and providing inmate residential and prisoner transportation services for governmental agencies.

In addition to providing the fundamental residential services relating to inmates, our facilities offer a variety of rehabilitation and educational programs, including basic education, religious services, life skills and employment training and substance abuse treatment.

These services are intended to reduce recidivism and to prepare inmates for their successful re-entry into society upon their release. We also provide health care (including medical, dental and psychiatric services), food services and work and recreational programs.
