Christmas Spectacular Beauty Pageant

To be held Dec. 13th, 2008 10:30 a.m. at Macon County Jr. High, Entry Fee $20. 4 extra optionals are ($5)each: b.dressed, p.smile, b.personality, p.eyes, or Beauty and 4 optionals for $35. Grandpa's House Fifth Annual Storytelling

It's "The Spirits of Christmas" at Grandpa's House Fifth Annual Storytelling in Red Boiling Springs, TN. This event will be held Saturday, December 13, 2008 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Storytelling sessions will be at 10:00 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m. Karen Davis, International Toastmaster and a member of the National Storytelling Network will be on hand and she asked that you bring your own stories to share. County Government Office Closings

County government offices in Macon County will be closed on Thursday, November 27th & Friday, November 28th for Thanksgiving.

Hope Family Health Clinic is sponsoring Christmas Express

To benefit the elderly, at the local nursing homes. We need need lap blankets donated or you can donate yarn, flipper socks, and personalized Christmas cards, (which is signed cards with well wishes). Any questions call Hope Clinic, 644-2000.

Candlelight Memorial Service

There will be a candlelight memorial service at the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home located on Hwy. 52 By-Pass in Lafayette on Tuesday evening, November 25th at 6:30. Elder Jeff Blackwell will be the speaker and there will be a quartet singing and refreshments served. The names of the loved ones who have passed away this year will be named and others that you want to remember during the holiday seasons coming up. A candle will be lit in their memory. Public invited.

New Life Baptist Church Presents Terri Lynn Weaver in Concert

Recently elected the the Tenn. House of Representatives from the 40th District,Terri Lynn Weaver will be sharing an evening of good gospel music at the New Life Baptist Church, 6851 Highway 52 East, Lafayette, November 23, Sunday Evening at 6:00 P.M. Attn: MCHS Underclassmen Parents

Each year the senior class has the opportunity to go on a teacher chaperoned trip in the spring. This can be an expensive trip if you pay the total amount at one time. Because of this, we like to offer you the chance to pre-pay for the trip. This is an optional program, but one that has proven favorable in the past. The money is fully refundable to anyone who may decide not to go, but will not be reimbursed until the student's senior year. The only exception to this is if the student moves or transfers to another school. You will receive a full refund the time of his/her withdrawal in that case. A suggested payment schedule is listed below, but deposits can be made at any time and in any amount that you would like. Student will receive a receipt with each payment. Cash or checks made payable to MCHS should be taken to Mrs. Porter in room 205. For questions, please contact Shana Porter at 666-4320. Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church Thanksgiving Services

Services will be held Sunday night, November 23rd. A pot luck dinner will be held in the basement at 5:30 with services at 7:00 p.m. Bro. John Madden will be the visiting preacher.

Gospel Singing at Providence General Baptist Church

Lafayette Interact Club collecting Christmas trees

The Lafayette Interact Club will be collecting Christmas trees to be distributed to tornado victims. If you would like to donate a Christmas tree you no longer use, you may do so Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday - November 17th, 18th, and 19th from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Macon County High School. We will also accept donations of new or gently used decorations for these trees. Any tornado victim wishing to receive a free Christmas tree may come to Macon County High School on Friday, November 21 from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. to select the tree of your choice.

Macon Co. Libraries closed Nov. 27 & 28

Macon County Public Library and RBS Branch Library will be closed on Thursday November 27 and Friday November 28 for Thanksgiving.

Lafayette City Hall closed Nov. 27 & 28

The Lafayette City Hall will be closed Nov. 27 and 28 in observance of Thanksgiving holiday. Thursday and Friday's garbage routes will be picked up the following Monday, Dec. 1 and Monday and Tuesday's garbage routes will be picked up on Tuesday, Dec. 2. Please set garbage out the night before for early pickup.

Macon County Parks & Recreation Board of Directors to meet

Meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 6:00 pm at the Macon County Justice Center to finalize the 2008 Softball Season and begin planning for 2009.

Gallatin Children's Choir Recital

The Gallatin Children's Choir, sponsored by the Gallatin Arts Council and directed by Alyson Haley, will present their winter recital entitled “A Bit of Holiday Cheer” in the First Baptist Church Gallatin Chapel on Saturday, December 6 at 5:00pm. The church is located at 205 East Main Street, the chapel door entrance is on South Boyers Avenue. This concert is open to the public. Admission is free but donations are welcome and go to support the choir.

Pursuant to T.C.A. 5-5-113, the Committee of a Whole of the County Commission of Macon County, Tennessee, shall assemble itself at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 1, 2008, at the Courthouse in Lafayette, Tennessee.

Commodity Distribution

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency will hold a commodities distribution for Macon County on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the UCHRA Office located at 607 Highway 52 By-Pass in Lafayette and from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the City Hall in Red Boiling Springs. Everyone must present a valid UCHRA commodity card in order to receive commodities. Persons may receive commodities for a total of three (3) households if valid cards are presented at the distribution. The U.S.D.A.'s Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program is available to all eligible recipients regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex or handicap.
