A large group of seniors and dignitaries turned out to help dedicate the new Senior Citizens Center in Lafayette last Thursday morning.
Among the dignitaries who spoke was State Senator Mae Beavers, who announced she had procured a $4,000 state enhancement grant for the Macon County seniors new facility.
“This is by far the largest, nicest center in my district,” said Senator Beavers.
A representative of the Upper Cumberland Development District also announced a generous grant of $1,000, and Board of Directors Chairman Dennis Wolford, Lafayette Mayor J.Y. Carter and County Mayor Shelvy Linville also spoke, complimenting the center's board of directors and Director Jamie Dallas for the fine work they had done on the building.
Mark Smidebush, representing Nestle Waters North America was also thanked for the company's generosity in donating a large amount of state grant monies, left over from the infrastructure funding for the bottling plant in Red Boiling Springs. Other significant funding was provided earlier by the county commission.
Following the speakers' presentation the crowd enjoyed a lovely luncheon, capping off the morning's celebration.
