Makin' Macon Fit offers events for all ages, encouraging the public to be active and healthy and designed to benefit Macon County schools and teachers, funding two scholarship awards and supporting numerous community projects.
For runners, bikers, walkers and kids events, Makin' Macon Fit has it all! Drawings and door prizes include at least six bicycles. The prize drawings take place at about 11 a.m.
All pre-registered participants receive the coveted Makin' Macon Fit tee-shirt. Organizers also hold a Health Fair, there is a “bouncy booth” and a huge slide for the enjoyment of young children.
Events are scheduled for all ages, with Nestle Waters North America sponsoring the 5K race, with awards for overall male and female winners, and awards “two deep” in ten age categories. The start time for the 5K race is 7:30 a.m.
Citizens Bank is once again the sponsor of the 3 K walk, also set to begin at 7:30 a.m.
Both the 5K run and the 3K walk are held on the same enclosed course at Macon County Junior High School.
Runners may also ride in any of the bike tours at no extra charge.
Knollwood Manor sponsors the 10 mile bike tour, and NCTC sponsors the more rigorous 33 mile bike tour. You must be 12 years of age, or have an adult guardian to ride the 10 mile tour; and you must be 16 years old to participate in the 33 mile tour without a guardian. Both bike tours begin at 8 a.m.
A Junior Bike Rodeo, a Fun Run and an Obstacle Course trio of “Kids Events” is sponsored by the Lafayette Children's Clinic, and set to begin at 8:30 a.m. The bike rodeo will be on an enclosed course, with no competition from automobile traffic.
Everyone participating in any bike event must wear a helmet and obey the rules of the road
Events for the Challenged begin at 10 a.m. and is sponsored this year by Coordinated School Health. A series of events have been developed for physically and mentally challenged individuals, and are a great way for all people, no matter what their abilities to participate in physical events encouraging good health.
There will be plenty of fruits and drinks available as refreshments, so come out and enjoy the day, as active participants, or as spectators urging your favorite contestant(s) on!
The Lafayette Rotary and Interact Clubs, the Macon County Health Council, and Macon County General Hospital are hosts for this event. Many people have worked tirelessly to make this year's celebration of activity and health the best ever in its Fifteen Year history.
The Macon County school with the most participants is awarded $500, and the school with the second highest number of participants gets $300. The teacher with the most students participating is awarded $200.
Late registration can still be made in any of the events up until 30 minutes of the start of the event you are participating in Saturday. So make no excuse, ‘cause Makin' Macon Fit is happin' on Saturday, September 6th!
