This Saturday, August 30 the ducks will be back in downtown Red Boiling Springs for the Lions Club Annual Duck Day Festival. The duck race event is used to raise needed funds for the RBS Lions.

“We fund our eye sight and hearing aid program with this event,” said Glenda Cohen, charter member of the Lions and event organizer.

The festivities begin at 10:00 am in the Palace Park on Salt Lick Creek in Red Boiling Springs.

In this unique competition, ducks can be “adopted” for $5.00 each and both the fastest and the slowest duck win. The duck competition begins at 2:00 with the winning duck, the one that makes it through the chute first, winning $100.00, and the final “lame duck will receive $50.00.

Along with these two prize winners other adopted ducks will be entered into drawings for prizes.

Shelvy Linville and Danny Knight along with others will participate in the dunking booth.

A variety of music will be provided by Larry Hagan and friends, the Strode Family, Jason Reed, Clovis York, plus many other talented groups and individuals.

Glenda Cohen said the group plans to have plenty of good food including hamburgers, hot dogs with chili and cheese, chicken sandwiches and the festival goodies you can't do without such as popcorn, soda, and cotton candy.

“Everybody gets a prize,“ said Glenda, when discussing the dart throwing event. Several games will be available at $1.00 each most involving a duck theme such as ring the duck and duck pick up where everyone is a winner.

“We are a real close group, “ said Glenda, “we work for the good of the community.” Although the group has bake sales and an occasional road block this event will make the difference in being able to provide funding to those in need.

Glenda talked about helping an elderly citizen recently . “She has Social Security and nothing else.” That's the reason the Lions ask the public to come out and support a good cause so they can continue to provide vision and hearing services to the small Macon County community they consider themselves fortunate to be part of.
