* Tanya Tucker, Ronnie McDowell, and Julie Maners performed at Deerwood Amphitheater.
* Jennifer Fortenberry, granddaughter of Times publisher Charlie Gregory, donated microfilm files of the Macon County Times to Historian Harold Blankenship. This gift gave the library ways to let citizens view Times from 1933-1980.
*Mary Pryor, van driver for the Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency, received a Service Award from Phyllis R. Bennett, UCHRA director. The award was made in recognition of "outstanding service and contributions given to UCHRA."
*Dr. & Mrs. Larry Key presented a check in the amount if $500.00 to the Doris and Harry Vise Library fund at Cumberland University. The gift was in memory of R.R. Mixon and Reba Mixon, Key's late aunt.

*Bobby (Goosey) Gann was elected president of the Lafayette Quarterback Club.
*Paul Bowman of new Lafayette killed a 4 1/2' rattlesnake.
*Dale Stinson exhibited the Champion Hereford Heifer at the District 4-H beef show in Cookeville.
*Juanita Dyer was a $25 winner in Houchens weekly give-a-way program.
*David Swindle exhibited the Champion Polled Hereford at the District 4-H Livestock Exposition.
*Johnny White, a recently discharged soldier, was killed in a one-car crash on Highway 10 South near Hillsdale.
*Will T. Colter was elected Commander of the Lafayette American Legion Post. Arvid Austin was elected Vice Commander.

*Maurice Massey had been awarded a Junior Chamber of Commerce International Senatorship at the Tennessee Jaycee State Convention.
*Clynton Sloan of Webbtown was pictured with a case containing about 100 arrowheads he had collected.
* The Macon County Grand Jury recommended that the county sell the poor farm on Westmoreland Road.
*Shirley Massey, daughter of Elder and Mrs. William Massey of Lafayette, was awarded a scholarship to Middle Tennessee State University.
*Members of the Babe Ruth All Star Team were Jimmy Andrews, Benny White, Ronnie Morgan, Benny Gregory, Keith Ballou, Don Jent, Mike Whittemore, Richard Tomlin, Jerry Hunt, Keith Taylor, John Graham, Mickey Walrond, Bill Meredith, Thomas Dixon Jr., Gary Perdue, Mike McClard, Mike Prock, and Tim Roark.
*Winners in the County 4-H Dress Revenue included Jean Mahaney, Carolyn Cothron, Kim Clark, Willene Jones, Jada Austin, Judy Ellis, Patricia West, and Teresa Merryman.
*E.A. Barber was elected Commander of the Lafayette American Legion Post. Other officers included: Homer Wooten, First Vice Commander; and Roland Kirby, Second Vice Commander.
