William Edward Whittemore, age 62, of 217 Strawberry St., Portland, Tenn., passed away at his residence at 10:40 p.m. Tues. night on the 10th of June, 2008 from complications of a stroke that occurred on the 15th of May of this year. He was a self-employed yard maintenance man and was well known and liked by all.

He was the first child of the late Cleon Wilson “Ted” and Josie Esmar Farley Whittemore and arrived on the 16th of Oct. 1945 in Macon County, Tenn. He was the grandson of the late William Henry “Will” and Amanda Maude Slayton Farley and the late Edward Wilson “Eddie/Edd” and Louise Eller Hudson Whittemore, all of Macon County, Tenn.

Besides his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his son, Edward Wilson Whittemore and brothers, James Carlean Whittemore, Ray Dean Whittemore and John Mark Whittemore

Mr. Whittemore is survived by his wife, Patricia Hodges Whittemore and two other children by his first wife, the former Rosemary Inalay. His children, Mary (Jimmie) Choate and Robert (Paula) Whittemore of Portland; five grandchildren, Timmy & Nathan Choate, Emily Whittemore Scott, Rachel Whittemore, and Travis Whittemore; four great-grandchildren, Josh and Trevor Choate, Michelle Scott, and Sean Patrick Whittemore; six sisters, Emmer Jewell (Michael) Dillahay of Portland, Peggy Ann (Roy) West of Indianapolis, Indiana, Lillie Mae (Mark) Berry of Indianapolis, Indiana, Brenda (Timmy) Harper of Hartsville, Tenn., Melissa (David) Harper of Hartsville, Tenn., and Susan (Michael) Smith of Russellville, Kentucky; one brother, Forrest Dean (Rose Knight) Whittemore of Portland, Tenn.; an uncle, Ramond Lee Whittemore of Mitcheville, Tenn.; and an aunt, Maudie Jewell Sanders of Lafayette, Tenn.

Funeral services were held June 14, 2008 at p.m. in the chapel of Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home in Portland with Bro. Ed Ferrell officiating.

Pallbearers were Timmy Choate, Nathan Choate, Travis Whittemore, Michael Dillahay, Jason Whittemore, and Johnny Whittemore with interment at the Cold Springs Cemetery in Macon County, Tennessee.
