Benefit Auction & Singing June 28th

The Pleasant Grove Community Club will host a benefit auction and singing at the Pleasant Grove Community Center in Westmoreland, TN. Located 3 miles north of Westmoreland. Auction and musical entertainment will begin at 4:30 p.m. until ? Featured musical groups are The Happy Hearts, the 31E South Highway Band, and others. Proceeds from the auction and singing will go towards general maintenance, utilities, supplies, and overall support of the Community Club. Food concessions will be available for sale. All donations of money, auctioned items, or baked items will be greatly appreciated. Hope to see you there!

Macon County Health Council Notice

The Macon County Health Council will not meet in July 2008. Meetings will resume in August 2008.

Birdwell Reunion June 28

The annual Birdwell Reunion will be held on June 28, 2008 at the Old Mulkey State Park near Tompkinsville, KY. This includes the descendants of Alexander and Bernetta (Spears) Birdwell. Lunch will be served around noon. Meat, drinks, and paper goods will be supplied. Please bring a covered dish and join us.

Children's Summer Bible Story-Time at Lafayette First Baptist Church

Children ages 3-9 years of age are invited to Bible story-time at Lafayette First Baptist Church each Thursday morning in July beginning Thursday, July 10th. Story-time will begin at 10:00 a.m. each Thursday. Children will listen to a story, learn a song, and then enjoy refreshments. Readers will include: Vera Brewer, Stacie Collins, Janis Dooley, and Debby Prock. Mel Perdue along with Katie Butrum will lead the children in learning a song. Following are the dates of the summer Bible story-time: Thursday, July 10th; Thursday, July 17th; Thursday, July 24th; and Thursday, July 31st.

Owen/Moss Family Reunion

Reunion will be held Saturday, July 5 at the Palace Park in Red Boiling Springs. Covered dish lunch begins at 12 noon.

Benefit Shower for Jim Maneer

Shower will be held June 28 at 2 p.m. for Jim Maneer & family of the Pleasant Valley Community at the Country Junction. Shower is to help with losses during the tornado.

VFW Dinner June 26th at 5 p.m.

Menu is Polish sausage, kraut & slaw, mashed potatoes, pinto beans, stuffed eggs, corn bread, drinks, & dessert.

Macon Co. Board of Education to meet in special session

Meeting will be held June 26th at 6 p.m. at the Central Office.

BBQ Fund Raiser for Hermitage Springs Vol. Fire Dept.

Come out and join the Hermitage Springs Vol. Fire Dept. on July 5th 2008 at the Hermitage Springs Park. Will be serving BBQ from 10:00 am until it is gone. Live music and the fireworks show starts at 9:00 pm.

Tai Chi Classes Offered

Come learn the oldest exercise in Chinese history. This program contains simple exercises for mental relaxation, mobility and breathing. A series of 8 one-hour classes will start Tuesday, July 1 at 10:00 a.m. at a cost of $48.00. Dates for the classes are as follows: 7/1, 7/3, 7/7, 7/11, 7/14, 7/22, 7/25 and 7/29 at the Senior Citizen center. Classes will be taught by certified instructor, Lynne Knight, UT Extension Agent. Arthritis Exercise Classes

Arthritis exercise classes will start on Monday, July 7, from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the Emergency Medical Service Building Classroom in Lafayette. The class is a non-clinical exercise program designed to help those who have joint and/or muscle problems achieve improved joint mobility, muscle strength and endurance in order to improve the performance of their daily activities. Veterans Day Parade and Activities Planning Committee

Pre-4th Celebration at The White House

A Pre-4th of July Celebration will be held July 3 at 6:30 p.m. on the lawn at The White House Assisted Living. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the music of Stardust Combo featuing Macon County's own, Cherry Cole. Hot dogs, hamburgers all trimmings and fireworks at dusk.

Democrat Party regular meeting July 3

The Macon County Democratic Party will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. at the Macon County Justice Center. All Democrats and other interested persons are urged to attend.

City Hall closed July 4th

The Lafayette City Hall will be closed Friday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day. Friday's garbage route will be picked up Thursday, July 3rd. Please set your garbage out Wednesday night for early pickup on Thursday.

Meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, in the Courtroom of the Courthouse in Lafayette, Tennessee at 9 a.m.

GED Test in Macon County

The next GED test in Macon County will be July 19th. Register now by calling 666-2125 and speak to Brenda Eller or June Spears. There will be only 20 seats available, first come, first served.

LBJ&C Board of Directors Special Called Meeting

Meeting will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the LBJ&C Development Corporation, 1150 Chocolate Drive, Cookeville, Tennessee. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Macon County 911 Board Special Called Meeting

Meeting will be held Monday, June 30th at 2:00 p.m. in the Macon County EMS Classroom. The only items to be discussed and/or take action on are Budget Amendments to the FY 2007-2008; Report on Equipment Installation Situation; and FY 2008 - 2009 Budget Modifications.

Magnolia Music Singers in Hartsville

Mary Kay Mueller, along with her MAGNOLIA MUSIC voice students and friends will perform in song and dance in the afternoon at Hartsville's July 4th festivities in the park. Gospel and patriotic music will be featured.

County Government Offices closed July 4th

Offices will be closed in observance of Independence Day.

Movies in the Park

Movies are shown at 8 p.m. Thursday nights in Key Park. Upcoming movies are: June 26th - Singing in the Rain; July 3rd - E.T. - The Extra Terrestrial; July 10th - Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein; and July 17th - Willow. All movies are free so bring your lawn chairs and blankets and join us at 8:00 p.m. in Key Park at the Bandstand. More films will be advertised at a later date. Revival at Grace Baptist Church

Revival will be held from June 25-29 at 7:00 p.m. with Evangelist Bro. Stevie Anderson. Church is located on Brattontown Circle in Lafayette, TN. Pastor Landy Presley and congregation would like to invite everyone out each night.

Charity Auction for Smith County Help Center

Hoffman Auction House will be holding a benefit auction for the Smith County Help Center on July 11th @ 6:00 p.m. and need your help. Good, clean items are needed for the auction and can be dropped off at Hoffman Auction House (next to Save-A-Lot Food Store in Carthage) on Mondays at 7:30 p.m. or Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. from now until July 10th. Change in Service Hours at New Hope Church in Westmoreland

Beginning June 29, Sunday School will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by Worship Service at 10:00. Everyone is welcome.

Macon County Board of Education to meet

Meeting will be held July 10, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the Central Office. The Internet Usage Policy which includes a Technology Protection Measure and an Internet Safety Policy for the Macon County School System will be reviewed at the meeting.
