There is blasting, bulldozing, drilling going on. There is the pouring of footings, watering down the dust, hooking up electricity, power and telephone service at the construction site.
Where? At the 108 acre-site Corrections Corporation of America recently purchased from Four Lake Regional Industrial Development Authority, which has become a beehive of construction activity.
Entire rock hill sides have been blasted away, forming ledges that overlook a dusty moonscape dotted by construction equipment.
Holes for future blasting form neat lines across the dirt, and a water truck drives continuously over the site, spraying water to damp down the dust and make working conditions more bearable for the scores of workers at the site.
CCA has subcontracted with Rotondo Weirich to build cell units, and Division II, Inc. to handle site preparation, including all of the blasting, dozing, rock removal and more.
“The process of preparing the site for construction should take at least three months,” Steve Owen, Director of Marketing at CCA, said.
“We're on schedule, as I understand it, meeting all the deadlines we put out there previously,” he said.
Trousdale County Executive Jerry Clift also expressed noted the progress being made and said the project has already begun providing jobs for Trousdale County residents.
“It's remarkable how far they’ve come in such a short time,” he said, adding that he has referred all job inquiries he has received to Kevin Zynn, project superintendent for Rotondo Weirich.
