City election yields new mayor and two new council members

A new Lafayette City Mayor and Council Members will be sworn in on Tuesday, June 3 at 10:00 AM.

Unofficial results of the mayor's race show J. Y. Carter with 353 votes, incumbent Mayor Bill Wells with 245 votes, followed by Jack P. Butrum with 94 votes.

Unofficial results for three open council member seats show incumbent Loryn Atwell with 441 votes, Richard Bransford with 341 votes, and Steve Turner with 333 votes, though Robert Hodges is very close with a preliminary 324 votes.

149 write-in votes were additionally cast.

700 voters participated in the Lafayette City election with 451 voting early or by absentee ballot. Only 249 voted in the Thursday May 29 actual Election Day.
