* Work was underway on the Hartsville Nuclear Plant with 100 heavy equipment operators and supporting personnel preparing the site which was a $30 million project.

* Jenny MacCarter was named Valedictorian at Macon CountyHigh School. Other top students were Patricia Holmes, Eleane Cook, Jaynie Flippin, Kristy Harris, David Donoho, Vicki Goodall, Marjorie Patch, Ricky Hire, and Katherine Dean.

* Open house was held at the new Tri-County Vocational School near Red Boiling Springs.

* Mayor Page Durham and members of the Lafayette City Council presented young Britton Willis with a plaque for designing the official city insignia.

* A house belonging to Charlie Taylor, Spring Creek Road, was destroyed by fire. The house was occupied by Mr. Taylor
