(2) Macon County received much rainfall in a short period of time on Thursday afternoon Jan. 10. Larry Holland, Transportation Supervisor of Macon County, reported he was "well pleased" with how the schools and bus drivers handled the severe weather at a time when buses were being released from schools. Drivers used their discretion, some holding off driving. Others had slight detours in their bus rides home. Everyone arrived home safely. A plan was in place and followed in the event students had to return to the school with principals, cooks, and teachers remaining in place at school if needed.

(3) Board of Education encourages voting early. Election will fall on a regular scheduled school day. Ball games will also be held at some of the schools on election night.

Election will be held on Tuesday February 5th. Early voting begins on January 16 and ends January 31. PLEASE MAKE PLANS TO VOTE EARLY.

(4)TWO SPEND NIGHT IN COLD AFTER WRECK ON JENNINGS CREEK ROAD

Alene Turner and her son Bobby Delk endured a very cold night and early morning Wednesday, January 9, when the Ford sedan they were driving went off the Jennings Creek Road and slid down an embankment where it hit a tree.

The one-vehicle accident apparently occurred at 11 p.m. Tuesday night, but the 56 year-old woman and her adult son were not discovered until 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Willette Fire and Rescue personnel said Bobby Delk managed to crawl up to the roadway where a passing motorist saw him and alerted authorities.

Ms. Turner, formerly of Red Boiling Springs but who gave THP accident investigators a Gainesboro, TN address, was still in the vehicle when first responders arrived. She was extricated and both she and her son were transported up to the Willette Road where LifeFlight and AirEvac helicopters transferred them on to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.

Both were treated for hypothermia and other injuries and released from the hospital by this Friday, January 11.

Members of the Willette Fire and Rescue and RBS Fire and Rescue squads responded to the incident along with Macon County Sheriff's deputies and THP Tpr. Gerald Carter.
